PARKS & RECREATION BOARD         December 9, 2013

The Parks & Recreation Board met on Monday, December 9, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 400 N. High St., Cortland, Ohio.  In attendance were the following board members:  Dave Christner, Frank Daugherty, Shane Mealy, and John Picuri.  Also present was Mayor Curt Moll, Service Director Don Wittman, Ed Jakubick, Jerry Carleton and Jamie Bland.

Frank Daugherty made a motion to approve minutes from the November 11, 2013 regular meeting, seconded by Shane Mealy.   ALL AYES,  MOTION APPROVED.

Pearl Park

Continued discussion on restroom facilities at Pearl Park.  Would like to have Men’s and Women’s multi-use, accessible, with some storage, and an over-hang/porch area.  Rotary is willing to contribute funds towards the project but amount has not yet been decided.  The city has requested some budgetary numbers from Romtec (state purchasing approved vendor) and Ed will also look at modifying his original design.    It is expected to be in the ball park of $25,000.

Need to look at overall facilities’ needs – such as putting in basketball courts at Pearl as well as additional playground equipment

Willow Park

The city will obtain quotes so that resurfacing and/or crack repair and/or sealing for the pickleball courts can be included in next year’s budget.  The board is committed to support improvements to this court for next year i.e. court repair, posts, and sleeves.

Eastlake Park

The state capital budget can not buy infrastructure.  This would be great project for next round of state funding since the facility will be on state owned land but utilities (water and sewer) would need to come from city or another source.

Other Issues:  LAC inquired as to how difficult it would be to electrical to their storage building so they could have light.  Some other options for lighting were also discussed.

John Picuri made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Shane Mealy.  ALL AYES,
