A RESOLUTION DECLARING IT NECESSARY TO LEVY A

TAX IN EXCESS OF THE TEN MILL LIMITATION

 

WHEREAS, the amount of taxes which may be raised within the ten mill limitation will be insufficient and declaring the necessity of a levy in excess of such rate for providing sufficient and proper funds for use in the General Fund of the City of Cortland, Ohio; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE:

 

BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORTLAND, COUNTY OF TRUMBULL, STATE OF OHIO:

 

TWO-THIRDS OF ALL THE MEMBERS ELECTED THERETO CONCURRING:

 

Section 1. That the amount of taxes that may be raised by the said Council of the City of Cortland, in the City of Cortland, Ohio, to provide funds for operating expenses by levy of the maximum rate authorized by Section 5705.02 of the Ohio Revised Code will be insufficient, and that it is expedient to levy taxes in excess of such limitation for the purpose of providing funds for the operating expenses of the General Fund of the City of Cortland, and increase rate over the maximum of not to exceed one and nine-tenths mills for each one hundred dollars of valuation for a period of not exceeding five years beginning with the tax year 2012.

 

SAID LEVY BEING A 1.9 MILL RENEWAL OF AN EXISTING

LEVY TO PROVIDE THE SUFFICIENT FUNDS FOR OPERATING

EXPENSES IN THE GENERAL FUND OF CORTLAND, OHIO

 

Section 2. That the Clerk of Council be and she is hereby directed to certify a copy of this Resolution to the County Auditor with the request that said County Auditor certify to the City of Cortland the current tax valuations of this City and the number of mills required to generate specific amount of revenue or the dollar amount of revenue that would be generated for a specific number of mills.

 

Section 3. In accordance with Ohio Revised Code Section 57.05.25, that the provisions of said tax levy be submitted to the electors of the City of Cortland in the general election to be held on the 8th day of November 2011.

 

Section 4. That this Resolution is deemed necessary for the preservation of public peace, property, health and safety and shall take effect as early as allowed by law.
